Calder House, Main Street, Lochwinnoch

Calder House, located on Main Street in Lochwinnoch, was probably built in 1789. This building features two storeys over a basement, with an attic and three bays. It is constructed from rubble with painted ashlar margins. The central door is situated behind a later wooden porch with pilasters. The windows are plate glass sashes, and there is an eaves course and cornice. The house has three large, unsympathetic, piended dormers, straight skews, corniced end stacks, and a slate roof. At the rear, there is a conical-roofed stair tower. The property is set behind a rubble-built wall that includes impressive late 18th century gothick ashlar gatepiers. An iron lamp bracket forms an overthrow arch at the gateway.
