Description
The Glasgow, Paisley and Johnstone Canal aqueduct, designed by Thomas Telford and constructed between 1806 and 1809, spans a lane that was later converted for railway use and closed in 1881. The aqueduct is made of stugged grey sandstone ashlar and features a single arch with rubble sides. It has channelled voussoirs and a vermiculated keystone, with a plain ashlar course above that serves as a base course for the terraced wallhead, which is coped with ashlar. There is a terminal pier with block coping and an outer splay, but no parapet above ground.
