Paisley Grammar School, Glasgow Road, Paisley

The Janitor's House at Paisley Grammar School, located on Glasgow Road in Paisley, was designed by T G Abercrombie between 1895 and 1898, as part of the school complex that includes the W B Barbour Academy. The building features a large two-storey block with attics, arranged quadrangularly around a central hall. Its tripartite elevation is characterized by flanking ranges that have gables at the front, showcasing a collegiate gothic style with renaissance details, including mostly cross-windows, with a three-light window in the right-hand gable and at the rear. The windows are recessed and arched, topped with block cornices. The structure has a brick base and painted concrete panels in the bays, with a pediment over the entrance bay. Horizontal stone-cleaned divisions separate the storeys, and there are concrete cill courses.

The building is constructed of red ashlar with slate roofs and retains its original glazing. The flanking additions feature fully-glazed staircase bays that connect the old block to the new. A low boundary wall without railings runs along the street, topped with pinnacled square gatepiers.

Additionally, there is a Janitor's Lodge designed by James Steel Maitland, which remains unaltered. This small structure has a brick base, is rendered, has a slate roof, and features a glazed corner that is differentiated with exposed brick. Side entrances are present in the windows.
