The Lurg, Muthill

The Lurg in Muthill is a mid-19th century farmhouse that stands two stories tall and features three bays. It has a later single-storey and attic link to a square-plan, two-storey former dairy with a pyramidal roof located to the northeast. The exterior is constructed of pinned rubble with smooth margins and chamfered reveals, and it has deep timber bracketed eaves. The farmhouse has several shallow pointed-arched window openings, some of which include timber mullions. Gabled dormers are present on the northeast and southwest elevations of the farmhouse, while the former dairy has small slit windows on its upper level. A later rendered lean-to has been added to the southeast.

On the northwest elevation facing the road, the farmhouse is positioned to the right and features a central full-height canted bay with a slated timber and glass lean-to porch on its right side. The windows are predominantly timber sash and case, displaying a variety of glazing patterns, including narrow two-pane over three-pane configurations. The gable windows consist of eight-pane over four-pane timber sash and case windows, along with some six-pane fixed timber windows. There are also some non-traditional replacement windows. The farmhouse has piended roofs covered with grey slates, a central coped ridge stack, and cast iron rainwater goods.

Inside, there is a curved stair with simple timber balusters and railing, as well as a timber fire surround featuring a decorative iron and tiled inset.
