Description
Banchory is a farmhouse built in the earlier to mid 19th century. It is a two-storey, three-bay building with an L-shaped plan and features both piend and platform roofs. The exterior is harled with droved ashlar margins and quoin strips, and it has a cavetto eaves cornice, stone mullions, and chamfered arrises.
On the southeast (principal) elevation, the central bay at ground level has a flat-roofed, corniced, and pilastered ashlar porch with a panelled timber door and a two-part fanlight. To the right of the centre, there is a bipartite window, while to the left, a projecting bay features a canted tripartite window with a corniced blocking course. The first floor has regular fenestration.
The northeast elevation includes a later French window in the bay to the right of centre at ground level, along with two windows on the first floor. The southwest elevation has a modern conservatory at ground level and three irregular windows on the first floor. There is also a single-storey wing with two slightly set-back windows on the outer left.
The northwest elevation displays a variety of elements, including a piended single-storey bay off-centre to the left and another single-storey wing projecting to the right. Above, there is a stair window in the centre.
The farmhouse features timber sash and case windows with a 12-pane glazing pattern, although some windows in the single-storey wing have varied glazing patterns. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are coped ashlar stacks topped with polygonal cans.
Inside, the farmhouse has plain cornices and a staircase with cast-iron balusters.
The property includes a rectangular-plan walled garden at the northwest, enclosed by coped rubble walls. The boundary walls are semicircular-coped rubble with decorative ironwork gates.
