Description
Kaimes Cottage is a single-storey, five-bay cottage dating from around 1820 to 1830, and possibly designed by James Gillespie Graham. The building is an example of pattern book Tudor style and is constructed of harled walls with undressed red sandstone dressings and drip moulds. It has a slated piend roof with octagonal end stacks. The cottage is centrally aligned, situated opposite the entrance to the Orchill estate.
The south-facing elevation has five bays. Square-plan window projections are present in the outer bays, while the central bays feature bipartites set behind the façade, flanking a slightly advanced gabled centre bay. This central bay has a pointed-arched blind opening with a drip mould, and a weathervane finial sits atop its apex.
