Description
The South Range, Stables and Coach House, located at Orchil House (formerly Orchil Den), was likely designed by Andrew Heiton around 1870. The complex comprises two parallel, single-storey ranges running east to west. The southern range, originally a barn, retains its original character and is now used as a garage and storage space. The northern range, originally part of the stable block, had an attic floor added around the 1920s and is now used as living accommodation. A pitched-roof entrance porch projects from the courtyard elevation of the northern range, centrally located. The courtyard facades are constructed of stugged and snecked ashlar, while the outer south and north elevations use rubble. Both ranges have slated piend roofs. An entrance on the east side is marked by screen walls and a pair of bull-faced ashlar circular piers topped with stepped masonry conical caps and ball finials. A "three quarter span" conservatory is attached to the west side of the southern range.
