Description

Lochnager, located at 1 Taybridge Road in Aberfeldy, is a villa that was restored in 1899, incorporating elements from 1842 and 1869. This two-storey, three-bay building is designed in the Tudor style typical of the Breadalbane Estate. The exterior is harled with stone cills and features timber transoms and mullions.

On the west elevation facing Taybridge Road, the building has a stepped design with a broad gable on the left, which includes a transomed tripartite window on each floor. The central bay is slightly set back and features a transomed bipartite window on both floors. To the right, there is another set-back gabled bay with similar window arrangements, and a first-floor window that breaks the eaves into a dormer head.

The south elevation, which serves as the entrance, has a broad advanced gable on the left with transomed tripartite windows on both floors and narrow lights on the returns at ground level. There is a small harled porch with a panelled timber door and a letterbox fanlight in the re-entrant angle to the right, and a bay to the right with a first-floor window that also breaks the eaves into a dormer head.

On the east elevation, there is an advanced gable to the right with a small window at ground level, and a jettied first floor featuring a modern window in the centre and a small window on the return to the left. To the left, there is another gable with a single window at ground level.

The north elevation displays a variety of elements, including three gables to the right and a modern conservatory also to the right.

The upper lights of the windows predominantly feature diamond-pattern glazing above plate glass in casement windows, with some timber sash and case windows present. The roof is covered with graded grey slates, and there are paired diamond-aligned ashlar stacks with polygonal cans. The eaves overhang with decorative bargeboarding and finials adds to the architectural detail.

Inside, there is some decorative plasterwork and a top-lit stairway featuring coloured glass.

Additionally, there is an ancillary building, which is a rectangular-plan rubble former stable with a segmental cart arch and boarded timber doors. It has a lean-to bay to the west and a corrugated roof.
