Description
Rosemount, located on Crieff Road in Aberfeldy, dates from around 1840. It is a two-storey and attic, five-bay short terrace of houses with a corner shop, designed in the Breadalbane Estate style. The building features steeply-pitched dormers and decorative bargeboarding, as well as a deep base course. The construction includes squared, snecked, and random local chlorite-slate rubble with ashlar dressings.
The principal elevation is near-symmetrical, with slightly set-back central bays that include a pedimented and pilastered doorpiece, a panelled timber door, and windows in the flanking bays. There is an additional window to the outer right, regular fenestration on the first floor, and three stone dormer windows above. The outer left gabled bay has a pedimented and pilastered door to the left at ground level and a single window in the centre on each floor. The outer right gable is slightly broader, featuring two large display windows at ground level, a two-leaf timber door to the right in a canted angle that is corbelled to a square above, two windows on the first floor, and another window off-centre to the left in the attic.
The north elevation, facing Kenmore Street, has two large display windows at ground level, two windows on the first floor, and a dormer window in the centre above. The south elevation features a large flat-roofed extension projecting at ground level, a single window in the centre on the first floor, and two canted dormer windows above.
The building has timber sash and case windows with 8- and 12-pane glazing patterns, and 4-pane patterns in the dormers. There are some uPVC windows on the first floor, one on the right side of the east elevation and one on the left side of the north elevation. The roof is covered with graded grey slates, and there are coped ashlar stacks with some cans. The eaves are deeply overhanging and adorned with decorative bargeboarding.
Inside, the Moncrieff Surveyors shop features decorative plasterwork on the ceiling, a frieze, and pilasters. The property is enclosed by rubble boundary walls with coped square-section ashlar gatepiers.
