Description
55-61 Methven Street is an earlier 19th century, three-storey and attic, seven-bay corner Classical tenement that features shops on the ground floor. The building is rendered on the street side (east) and constructed of rubble at the rear and side. It has raised cills and the ground floor shops are adorned with timber pilasters, a timber fascia, and a cornice, along with some moulded stall risers. Decorative iron balconies are present on the first floor.
The roof includes a pair of small piended dormers and two later, larger dormers. Most of the windows are predominantly replacement non-traditional tilt and turn types, with plate glass on the ground floor. The roof is covered with concrete tiles, and there are brick ridge stacks. The shop at No 63 is now integrated with the shops at No 65.
