Description

Dron Farmhouse is a mid-18th century building that was extended and remodeled in 1885. It features an irregular plan, consisting of an original two-storey and attic, rectangular-plan, five-bay main block, along with a lower two-storey service wing at the rear and additional single-storey extensions at the re-entrant angle. The original structure is harled, with dry-dashed finishes on the east and west gables, and rubble walls with stugged ashlar dressings elsewhere, topped with a slate roof. Notable architectural details include quoin strips, 8-pane sash and case windows with chamfered margins, bracketed eaves, and ashlar and brick stacks, along with a bell-cast roof. The service wing has some 12-pane sash and case windows and brick end stacks, while the 1885 additions primarily feature 4-pane sash and case windows and piended roofs.

On the south elevation, there is a symmetrical design with a slightly advanced stugged ashlar gabled entrance at the center, which includes a panelled door with a fanlight, chamfered arrises, and a half-timbered gable with deep eaves and plain bargeboards, topped with a cast-iron finial. There are two windows on both the ground and first floors to the left and right, along with two wallhead gables that have narrow round-headed boarded and ashlar-margined openings.

The east elevation features a gable on the left that is blank at both the ground and first floors, with a slightly advanced ground floor and a 12-pane window in the attic. To the right is a slightly recessed bay that is asymmetrical, containing a door and a window to the left, a blocked window to the right, and two windows on the first floor, with a window on the ground floor of the right return.

The west elevation has a blank gable on the right and a single-storey wing on the left, which includes two windows, a tall octagonal ridge stack, and a window and door leading to a small service court at the left return.

The north elevation features a single-storey bay that is advanced to the centre left, with a window and a boarded opening, along with a sculpted thistle motif at the centre.

The interior has not been fully seen, but it is noted that original chimneypieces on the ground floor have been removed, and some window shutters still have fielded panels.

Adjoining the house to the east is a walled garden formed by a rubble wall to the north and east, along with a rubble enclosing wall.
