Description

Gowrie House, located on Brioch Terrace in Crieff, dates back to 1869 and is a two-storey, three-bay house featuring Italianate details. The exterior is constructed from squared and snecked rubble, accented with contrasting ashlar dressings. Notable architectural features include raked cills and column mullions with decorative capitals.

On the south elevation, the central bay is highlighted by a portico topped with a slated piend-and-platform roof and decorative brattishing. It features a two-leaf timber door with a deep plate glass fanlight and a small bipartite window on the first floor. The left bay has a wide-centre tripartite window at ground level, leading to a small cast-iron canopy with brattishing, and a first-floor bipartite window that breaks the eaves into an anthemion-finialled gabled dormer. The right bay also has a similarly-finialled advanced gable with a bowed tripartite window at ground level and a bipartite window above.

The west elevation features an M-gable on the right side with a tall bipartite window at ground level and two windows on the first floor. The lower bays on the left have an altered door to the right below a small window, and a bipartite window to the left with a single window above that breaks the eaves into a gabled dormer.

On the north elevation, there is a gabled bay on the right with a window on the first floor, an altered bay to the left with small windows on each floor, and a broad bay on the left with two windows at ground level. These bays are connected by a pedestrian door at the centre.

The east elevation has a window on each floor of the gabled left bay, a further window at ground level in the centre with a bipartite window above, and a lower advanced gabled bay on the right with two windows at ground level and a single window above in the centre.

The windows are primarily timber sash and case with plate glass glazing, while modern glazing is present in the bowed window on the south, east, north, and the right side of the west elevation. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are coped ashlar stacks with tall circular cans. The eaves overhang with exposed rafters and plain bargeboarding, and square-section cast-iron downpipes feature decorative fixings along with dated rainwater hoppers.

Inside, there is a screen door with etched glass.

The property is enclosed by semicircular-coped rubble boundary walls, complemented by square-section ashlar gatepiers that feature a carved anthemion band and caps with patera detail.
