Description

The United Presbyterian Church on Commissioner Street in Crieff is a small rectangular-plan church built in the mid-19th century, featuring gothic details. It has a three-bay nave and is situated on steeply falling ground, supported by pinnacled buttresses. The building is constructed of squared and snecked rubble with ashlar dressings and includes a base course. The pointed-arch openings are complemented by three-stage diagonal buttresses with raked coping, hoodmoulds with label-stops, and chamfered reveals.

The southwest (principal) elevation features a gabled front with steps leading up to a deeply-moulded doorway, which has a two-leaf timber door. There are single lancet windows in the flanking bays and a buttress at the outer angles, along with a trefoil opening in the gablehead.

On the southeast (Duchlage Road) elevation, there is a deep-set altered door at the center, flanked by traceried windows. A small traditional rooflight is located on the outer left, and a modern ventilator is positioned to the left of center.

The northwest elevation displays three regularly spaced traceried windows, while the northeast elevation features two large traceried windows.

The church has mottled, square-pane glazing in timber sash and case and fixed windows. The timber tracery retains some leaded glass on the southeast and northwest sides, while modern glazing has been installed on the southwest elevation. The roof is covered with grey slates, and the skews are capped with ashlar.

Surrounding the church are low saddleback-coped boundary walls with inset cast-iron railings and semicircular-coped boundaries.
