Description
91 East High Street in Crieff is a former school and chapel, originally built in the late 18th century and later converted into flatted dwellings, likely in the late 19th century. This tall, two-storey building with an attic and basement features a six-bay rectangular plan and is part of an irregular terrace. The exterior is finished in painted stucco with stone margins.
The north elevation has bays to the left, featuring a central door with a two-part fanlight, and windows in the outer bays on each floor. Dormer windows break the eaves. The right side mirrors the left, but the outer right bay has a gabled design with a tall hoodmoulded bipartite window in the gablehead, which has a stack piercing the right pitch. There is also a shouldered stack breaking the eaves at the centre. A tower from an adjoining property is set back to the outer right.
The east elevation presents a broad gabled front, with the ground falling to the south. It has a blocked three-light traceried window at the centre on the ground floor and a small hoodmoulded window high in the gablehead. There are two window openings in the basement, and a garden wall with a Tudor-arched pedestrian entrance is located at the outer left.
The building features a 4-pane glazing pattern in timber sash and case windows, grey slate roofing, and coped stuccoed stacks with cans, mostly polygonal, along with ashlar-coped skews that have decorative skewputts on the east side.
