Description

Built 1570/80 for George Auchinleck. L-plan with 62' tower in re-entrant angle, 4-storey with vaulted ground floor, wheel stair to 2nd floor level, corbelled turret stair above. Altered c.1800, restored Sir R.S. Lorimer 1916-21 with interior work in Scots 17th century style, turret stair heightened with bell roof and other alterations, single-storey and attic addition (with further small recent addition I.G. Lindsay.), rubble-built garden walls, garden house with forestair and bell roof, gatehouse V-plan with dormer heads all in neo 17th century style. Plasterwork Sam Wilson and Thomas Beattie, ironwork by Thomas Hadden, roof ridge beasts by Louis Deuchars.
