Description
Dunderave Castle was built in 1596 and later fell into ruin before being restored by Sir Robert Lorimer between 1911 and 1912. The castle is designed in an L-plan and has three and a half storeys, including a laigh floor. It features a square stair tower at the re-entrant angle and a circular tower at the northwest salient angle. The exterior is constructed of random rubble with corbie-step gables and a stone-slabbed roof, which includes dormers. The fine entrance is enhanced with dog-tooth ornamentation and has an inscribed lintel dated 1596, along with a highly enriched panel above it. During the restoration, a servants' wing and a library wing were added, both of which are one and a half storeys and connected to the keep by a loggia.
Inside, notable spaces include the Red Banner Hall, the Boudoir, the Library, the Oak Room, and the Elm Room.
