Description

Ton-An-Oir is a 2-storey and attic, 4-bay house built in 1906, featuring a piended roof. The exterior is constructed from red bull-faced squared and snecked rubble, with red sandstone ashlar dressings. Notable architectural features include a stylised Gibbsian doorpiece and curvilinear-pedimented window heads, along with stone transoms and mullions.

On the southwest (principal) elevation, there are two windows on each floor in the central bays, with a broad full-height canted bay on the outer right. This bay has a 10-light transomed window at the ground level and a 5-light window above, leading to a deep mutuled blocking course and a set-back dormer window. The outer left features a gabled bay with a slate-roofed rectangular-plan 6-light transomed window at the ground level and a bipartite window on the first floor.

The northwest elevation showcases a 4-bay design with various elements, including a tall piended bay on the left with windows on the first floor and a piended dormer above. To the right, there are three bays on the first floor, each with a single window that breaks the eaves into a stone-pedimented window head. The right window is semicircular, while those on the left are curvilinear.

The southeast (entrance) elevation includes a piend-roofed bay on the left with a bipartite window, and a swept-roof porch on the right. Steps lead up to a panelled timber door located on the return to the left, with two small windows close to the eaves on the first floor. The return to the right features a variety of elements, including a small pedimented dormer in the recessed centre bay and another piended bay to the right of centre with irregular fenestration, along with a flat-roofed bay that has a modern garage door in the re-entrant.

The windows are timber sash and case, featuring 4-, 6-, and 8-pane glazing patterns over plate glass. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are coped and neck-banded ashlar stacks with some chimney cans, as well as ashlar-coped skews with flat skewputts. The eaves are deeply overhanging, and decorative cast-iron finials add to the design.

The interior was not seen in 2001. The property is enclosed by rubble boundary walls, which are complemented by circular ashlar gatepiers topped with ball finials.
