Description

Knockfarrie Lodge is a lodge house built in the later 19th century, likely around 1877. It is a single storey and attic structure with three bays and features an oversized porch with decorative bargeboarding and a jerkinhead roof. The building is constructed from squared and snecked rubble, with ashlar quoins.

On the north elevation, the central bay has a finial-topped slated porch supported by square-section timber piers with cross-braced returns. There is a part-glazed timber door, a window in a canted bay to the right, and a steeply-pitched dormer window to the left, which has decorative timberwork on its pediment that breaks the eaves.

The south elevation, which faces the railway, has two windows at ground level and a dormer window to the right. The east elevation features a window to the right of centre at ground level, above which is a shouldered wallhead stack on the piended section of the roof. The west elevation consists of a single bay with a piend roof and a flat-roofed lean-to structure at ground level, along with another shouldered wallhead stack.

The windows are timber sash and case with plate glass glazing. The roof is covered with grey slates, and the chimneys are made of coped ashlar with a full set of polygonal cans. The eaves are deeply overhanging and have moulded pendant finials on the north side.

An ancillary structure includes a long, single-storey greenhouse with a rectangular plan, built on a brick base. It has eight small segmental-headed openings close to the ground on the left side, and its windows are now largely blocked with vertical timber bands.
