Description
Corrie House, now part of the Atholl Palace Hotel, is a two-story house built in 1871. It is a three-bay gabled structure with a crenellated porch and windowheads, accompanied by a single-story office wing to the rear. The exterior is constructed from rock-faced, squared and snecked rubble stone, with contrasting dressings of droved and stugged ashlar. A raised base and molded band courses are also present. The principal (SE) elevation features a slightly recessed central bay with a bipartite window at ground level and a smaller bipartite window breaking the eaves into a dormerhead above. Flanking this are broader gabled bays; the bay to the right has a crenellated, square-plan, wide-centre tripartite window at ground level and a bipartite window above, while the bay to the left has a crenellated canted tripartite window below a further bipartite window.
The entrance (SW) elevation includes a window within a crenellated porch in the center bay, broad steps leading to a return with a studded boarded timber door and decorative ironwork hinges, and windows in bays to the left and outer right. The first floor exhibits windows to the center and left bays, each breaking the eaves into a dormerhead. The bay to the right features a monogrammed panel and a setback stack. A slightly recessed single-story office wing is located on the outer left, featuring a boarded timber door and two narrow lights.
The northeast elevation includes a part-glazed timber door to the outer left, a monogrammed panel in the bay to the left of the center, evidence of a span-roofed conservatory, and a broad, shouldered wallhead stack above. The center gable has a finial and two windows on each floor, with a further window on each floor in the bay to the right, the first-floor window breaking the eaves into a finialled dormerhead. An advanced, single-story, gabled bay with two windows is situated on the outer right.
The rear (NW) elevation presents a stepped and irregularly fenestrated facade, incorporating gabled bays of the house flanking a piended center bay with a bipartite stair window, and an irregular U-plan of single-story gabled offices with boarded timber doors.
The windows are timber sash and case with four-pane and plate glass glazing, with decorative colored margins on the stair window. The roof is covered with graded grey slates, and coped ashlar stacks feature paired square cans. Overhanging eaves have plain bargeboarding and kingposts. Cast-iron downpipes and dated rainwater hoppers are also present.
The interior includes decorative plasterwork cornices and ceiling roses, as well as panelled timber shutters. A screen door leads to an inner hall with a timber-balustered staircase. Principal rooms on the ground floor to the SE feature fireplaces: one with black marble and carved decoration on the shutter panels, one with black and white marble and cast-iron cheeks, and one with white/grey marble, tiled cheeks, and a cast-iron grate.
