Quoy Farmhouse, South Walls, Hoy

Quoy Farmhouse, located in South Walls, Hoy, is a two-storey, three-bay farmhouse built in the mid to late 19th century. The exterior features flagstone walls with some remaining harling.

The north and south elevations are symmetrical, with a central door flanked by windows. Above, there are two first-floor windows centered above the two ground-floor windows, which are positioned close to the eaves. The east and west elevations have plain gable walls.

The windows exhibit varied styles, including fixed lights, 8 and 4-pane timber sash and case windows, and 6-pane lying pane windows. There are two rooflights on the south side. The roof is pitched and covered with Caithness stone slate, featuring coped gable end stacks with circular cans.

Inside, the entrance door opens directly into a small hall, with a flight of timber stairs directly opposite. A narrow cupboard runs parallel to the right of the stairs. To the right, a door leads into the kitchen, which has a flagstone floor and retains a fireplace surround on the gable walls, along with a cupboard to the right of the fireplace. To the left of the hall, there is another room with a fireplace in the gable wall, also featuring a timber surround and a flanking cupboard. The two first-floor rooms have doors at the top of the stairs; the right room has an iron fireplace in the gable wall with a timber surround and a cupboard beside it, while the left room also has an iron fireplace in the gable wall, a timber surround, and a flanking cupboard. Both first-floor rooms have timber floorboards and timber boarded coved ceilings.
