Description
Pen Llwyn Farmhouse is a two-storey, five-window farmhouse dating from the 18th century. The central three-window section is slightly advanced at the front and rear, featuring stone end stacks. The building is constructed of stone and topped with a slate roof.
At the front, there is a central planked door set in a chamfered stone surround, topped with a square hoodmould. This door is flanked by three-light sunk-chamfered mullioned windows, each with hoodmoulds, containing wooden casements, some of which have small panes. Above these, there are three-light mullioned windows, and a two-light window above the entrance, which is currently covered in ivy.
On the left wing, there is a two-light mullioned window on the lower storey and a small stone lean-to against the south gable end. The right wing features a similar two-light window on the lower storey, which is partially blocked, and above it is a three-light stone mullioned window, which is a late 20th-century replacement. The north gable end has no openings.
The rear of the three-window block has a central late 20th-century panelled door, with lower storey openings under segmental brick heads. The windows here are small-pane horizontal-sliding sashes, except for a mid to late 20th-century window on the lower storey of the left side. The stone sills have pecked decoration. The right wing is rendered and has mid to late 20th-century windows, while the wall of the left wing is missing.
Inside, the central section retains its original plan and features, including cupboards and plank doors. The front doorway leads into a living room with a staircase, and there is a doorway to the parlour on the left. To the rear, there is a back kitchen and a dairy/pantry. The former cartshed and dairy are now part of the domestic accommodation. Upstairs, a landing provides access to rooms above each ground floor room, with later doorways leading to rooms over the outer former agricultural units.
