Description
The farm buildings at Plas Captain consist of a long L-shaped range made of white-washed rubble stone and topped with slate roofs. This structure includes a barn with a cart-shed and possibly stables or a cow-house in the second range. The barn faces east and features planked double doors under a timber lintel, which are offset to the left. To the left of these doors is another planked door beneath a segmental brick head, with a planked loft hatch above it. There is an additional loft hatch at the far right, below which are smaller double doors that are slightly offset to the right. A skylight is present in the roof pitch.
Adjoining the south end of the barn is a slightly lower bay, likely intended for a cart, which has double planked doors in the center. The upper storey of this section is made of brick and includes a small window to the left of center and a planked loft door to the right. A stone buttress supports the south gable end.
The later range, which is longer, connects to the north gable end of the barn and faces south. This section has undergone alterations to its openings and features two butt joints. On the left side, there are stable doors, and to the right, a two-light casement window is set beneath a large vermiculated stone lintel. Above the door, there is a small paned window. Further to the right is a planked door with a horizontally-boarded loft hatch above it. There are also two windows with vermiculated stone lintels, with the right window replacing a former doorway and having blockwork beneath it. At the right end of this range, there are large full-height doors made of corrugated metal. Additionally, there is a small flat-roofed blockwork garage attached to the east end. Most openings at the rear of the barn have been infilled with blockwork, and there is a single blocked doorway under a segmental brick head at the rear of the cart passage, along with a metal-framed window in the upper storey to the right.
Inside, the barn now contains large silos and has been divided by a partition wall. It retains substantial Queen-post trusses.
