8 Broad St, Kirkwall

This early 19th century building is a three-storey, four-bay tenement located at 8 Broad Street in Kirkwall, adjacent to Number 6 Broad Street on the west side. The structure has a rectangular plan and features harled walls with cement dressings. The windows on the third floor are positioned close to the eaves.

On the south elevation, which is the principal façade, there is a deep-set modern door with a rectangular fanlight located in the bay to the left of centre. A small window is situated to the right of the door, with a window above it on each floor. The remaining bays also contain a window on each floor.

The west side elevation, which adjoins Number 6, has a centrally placed window on each floor. The building predominantly features 12-pane timber sash and case windows, although there is a replacement uPVC window at ground level in the outer left bay of the south elevation. The roof is covered with grey slate and has a piended design, with harled, corniced stacks on both the south and north sides, and uPVC rainwater goods. The interior was not seen in 1998.
