Description
The building is a former watermill located at Scar, Westove, Sanday, dating from the 18th to 19th century. It is a two-storey structure with a rectangular plan, situated to the west of Scar House, and built on a slope that descends to the north. The exterior features some harl-pointing on roughly coursed rubble.
On the northeast elevation, there is a large square-headed entrance that is offset to the right of center at ground level, along with a small boarded grain loft entrance located just below the eaves. There is also a small entrance to the right of center at ground level.
The southeast elevation showcases a former forestair leading to a deep-set boarded door, which is positioned close under the eaves and offset to the left of center. A window is located at the first floor on the outer left, and there is a boarded opening close under the eaves to the right of center.
The east gabled elevation features a round-arched entrance at ground level and a boarded grain store door above at the gablehead. The west gabled elevation is blank.
The roof is traditionally covered with graded stone tiles and has a stone ridge. The interior was not fully seen during the last inspection in 1998.
