Description

177 Kirk Road in Wishaw is a 2-storey, 3-bay villa built in 1877, designed in an asymmetrical Jacobethan style. The building features squared and snecked droved sandstone with raised bull-faced quoins. It has a base course, hood moulds over the openings, and predominantly bipartite windows with moulded stone mullions and reveals. The eaves are overhanging and adorned with fretwork barge boarding.

On the principal (south) elevation, there is a stone step leading to a central entrance, which has a roll-moulded reveal and a 2-leaf panelled door topped with a shouldered plate glass fanlight. Above this is a bracketed pentice stone canopy. A small single-light window sits above the entrance with a projecting cill. To the right, there is an advanced gabled bay featuring a further advanced window at the center, complete with a plinth, entablature, and decorative cast-iron balustrade. The first-floor window in this bay has a panel inscribed with a stylized monogram and the date. There is also a window on the ground floor of the right bay and a gabled single-light window that breaks the eaves above.

The rear (north) elevation has a small window at the center of the first floor and a window on the ground floor of the right bay below the gabled window. To the left, there is an advanced brick-built gabled office wing with a gablehead chimney, featuring a window on the gable end and two doors on the right return. A modern extension is attached to the right side of the roof, abutting the main house.

The east (side) elevation has single windows on both the first floor and ground at the rear, while the west (side) elevation is blank.

The interior was not seen in 2000. The villa predominantly features plate glass timber sash and case windows, grey slates, and lead flashing. It has cast-iron rainwater goods with decorative hoppers and stone chimney stacks at the gable ends topped with coped octagonal cans.

The boundary wall is a low, coped, squared rubble wall.
