Description

2 Coltness Road in Wishaw is a pair of semi-detached houses built in the late 19th century. These two-storey, four-bay homes have a rectangular plan and feature symmetrical gabled roofs. The exterior is made of squared and snecked, droved sandstone, with ashlar quoins and margins around the openings. The houses have projecting eaves adorned with decorative barge boarding and finials at the apex of the gables. The ground floor advanced bays are enhanced with decorative cast-iron balustrades, small balconies, and porches.

On the principal elevation facing south, there is an advanced gabled bay on the outer left. The central section features a canted three-light window with a parapet and a cast-iron decorative balustrade. To the right, there is a Venetian window with an entablature, columns in the center, and an engaged ball finial at the top, all framed by a stone arch. A bipartite window with a stone column is located in the bay to the right, and a gabled window that breaks the eaves is found on the first floor, complete with a small decorative, consoled balcony. The bays on the right mirror those on the left.

The north elevation at the rear is constructed of brick and is symmetrical. It features an advanced two-storey gabled bay on the outer right, with a window on the first floor and windows on the ground floor returns. To the left, there is a window at ground level and a gabled window that breaks the eaves on the first floor. The bays on the left mirror those on the right, except for two small windows at the ground level of the gable end.

The east side elevation has an advanced rectangular porch on the ground floor with a window in the center. There is a cavetto moulded and fanlit square-headed entrance to the left return, topped with an ovolo moulded cornice. On the first floor, there are a pair of tall, narrow round-arch windows. The apex is jettied in timber and plaster.

The west side elevation mirrors the east side. The interior was not seen in 2000. The houses feature modern windows, red pantiles, and coped stone stacks at the gable ends and center, along with cast-iron rainwater goods.
