Description
Wyndford Lock-Keeper's Cottage, built around 1770, is a two-storey, three-bay former lock keeper's cottage located along the Forth and Clyde Canal. The building features squared rubble with ashlar dressings. A tall single-storey lean-to extension was added in the later 20th century on the ground floor to the east.
The south elevation, which faces the canal, is a single-storey former entrance façade at the upper floor level. It has a central gabled entrance bay with a raised, chamfered door architrave. Flanking windows have raised, chamfered margins and stone cills, and there is a rectangular moulded cornice along the eaves and gable.
On the west elevation, there is a window located on the first floor to the right. The north elevation is two storeys high with three bays at the ground floor. The central opening has been converted from a doorway, while there are single openings in the flanking bays. The second bay features two narrow openings, positioned off-centre to the left and right, with the left opening being shorter than the right, possibly indicating a later addition. All openings have raised, chamfered margins, and the entrance is accessed through the extension on the east side.
The east elevation includes openings on the ground floor to the right and on the first floor to the left, with the extension located at the centre of the ground floor.
