Description

Saltcoats Station, built in 1894, is a two-storey, three-bay station house located on Station Road, accompanied by a single-storey, ten-bay wing to the east. The building is constructed of red sandstone. The two-storey block features paired round-arched windows set in shallow advanced bays, flanking a central door that is pedimented. Above this, there is a cornice, a cill course, and three square-headed windows on the first floor. The cornice continues with a parapet above, which has decorative segmental panels. There is one wall head stack.

On the west elevation, there are two tall doors, with the central door being pedimented. The first floor mirrors the design of the main elevation. There are also two doors leading onto the platform. The wing has round-arched windows, corniced stacks, and a slate roof.

On Glencairn Road, the single-storey wing has eight bays, with a rubble plinth and polished red sandstone above. It features a cill course, two single round-arched windows, and five pairs of round-arched windows. The door on the right is flanked by pilasters, topped with a shallow pediment and acroteria, and is also corniced. The wing has stacks and a slate roof.
