Description

Ardeer Church of Scotland, built between 1894 and 1895 by Hippolyte J Blanc, is designed in the Perpendicular Gothic style. The church is constructed from snecked red sandstone with polished ashlar dressings and has a rectangular plan, featuring southeast transepts and a southwest octagonal tower. The west gable end has a door set under a four-centred arch, with moulded reveals and an ogival hood mould. There are two narrow flanking lights and a five-light window with perpendicular tracery above, while the lower part of the window is blind and stepped over the entrance arch. An angle buttress on the northwest side has a crocketted finial. The octagonal two-stage tower includes corbelled shafts at the angles of the upper stage, which flank bipartite belfry louvered lights. The tower is topped with a battlemented parapet and truncated pinnacles at the corners.

Inside, as noted from photographs taken in 2012, the church features timber pews, a pulpit, and a communion table. The roof is segmental-arched with timber details, including hammerbeams and brackets adorned with carved decorative infill above the hammerbeams. There is a panelled timber gallery at the west end, positioned above a timber and glass screen. The church also contains several stained glass windows that depict Biblical characters and scenes.
