Description
Mayville, located at 31 High Road in Stevenston, is a two-storey building constructed of rubble with rendered dressings. It features two later tripartite windows on the ground floor and three small sash windows that are widely spaced on the upper floor. The centre attic has a pediment with a circular panel and is adorned with three ornamental urns. The building has moulded eaves, a ridge roof, and plain gables, with end stacks, one of which has been recently rebuilt. There is a one-storey, centrally projecting porch with a later pediment, topped by an urn finial. At the rear, a one-storey office wing extends to create an L-shaped plan. This building was originally the Dowerhouse of Auchenharvie and is associated with Miss Lesley Baillie, who was immortalised by Robert Burns.
