Description
4 St Catherine's Place in Elgin is a pair of single-storey and attic houses built in 1906 by contractor James Newlands. The houses are constructed from bullfaced rubble sandstone, featuring prominent bullfaced dressings. Each house has a central entrance with a panelled door and a narrow sidelights adorned with Art Nouveau coloured glazing. The ground floor windows are slightly advanced bipartite designs, set beneath a crenellated wallhead. Above, there is a single shaped gabled dormer with bipartite windows, flanked by crowstepped gabled dormers, all of which break the wallhead. The windows have 2-pane glazing, and the houses feature corniced end stacks and a slate roof.
The low garden walls in front of the houses are made of exaggerated bullfaced rubble and are coped, with shaped terminals flanking the pedestrian entrances.
