Description
1-2 St Catherine's Place in Elgin is a pair of single storey and attic houses built in 1906 by builder and contractor James Newlands. The houses are constructed from bullfaced rubble sandstone, featuring exaggerated bullfaced dressings. Each house has a paired centre entrance with narrow sidelights that include Art Nouveau coloured glazing. The ground floor windows are slightly advanced and bipartite, set beneath a crenellated wallhead. Above, there is a single centre shaped gable with bipartite windows, flanked by crowstepped gabled dormers that break the wallhead. The windows have 2-pane glazing, and the houses have corniced end stacks and a slate roof. Surrounding the houses are low garden walls made of exaggerated bullfaced rubble, which are coped and feature shaped cope terminals flanking the pedestrian entrances.
