Description
The Royal Bank of Scotland, located at 57 High Street in Forres, was designed by Thomas Mackenzie in 1843, incorporating an earlier building likely created by William Robertson. The structure is made of ashlar stone with a rusticated ground floor. It consists of two storeys and features six bays, with the second and fifth bays slightly projecting as pylon elements and broad giant anta pilasters at the ends. A cornice and blocking course run along the top, rising as parapets at the second and fifth bays. There is a band course at the first floor and aprons beneath the first floor windows. The ground floor has modern glazing, while the first floor has 2-pane plate-glass windows. At the rear, there is a courtyard that includes a Roman Doric arch with scrolled consoles on either side, which is part of an early 19th century doorpiece.
