Description
161-163 High Street in Elgin is a former bank building designed by A and W Reid in 1856, featuring Renaissance architectural details. The building is three stories high and has three bays facing both High Street and North Street. The High Street side has a modern shop front, while the North Street side showcases a channelled ashlar ground floor. The first and second floors are finished in painted ashlar, and the building has rusticated quoins. All windows are framed with moulded lugged architraves; the first-floor windows have alternating segmental and triangular pediments. There are cill bands connecting the windows, and a blind balustrade is located below the first-floor windows on North Street. The building also features a bracketted cornice, corniced stacks, and a piended slate roof.
