Description
165 High Street in Elgin is a building dated 1811. It has three storeys and four bays, featuring a central depressed archway with a keystone, which is flanked by modern shop fronts. The exterior is constructed from coursed rubble with raised margins, and it includes long and short dressings around the windows and at the corners. Some of the original 12-pane glazing remains. The building has a moulded eaves cornice, a single coped stack at one end, and a shallow slate roof.
At the rear, there are projecting stair turrets that flank the archway, each topped with conical slated roofs. There are also early to mid-19th century two-storey rubble wings on both sides of the close, featuring broached margins. Inside the building, some beaded, panelled doors have survived.
