Description
St Giles' Building, located at 123-133 High Street in Elgin, was designed by R B Pratt and constructed between 1903 and 1904 in the Edwardian Freestyle. The building stands three storeys tall and features an off-centre pedimented attic with five bays. The modern shop fronts are complemented by an asymmetrical ashlar facade above.
On the right side, there is a narrow bay with a round-headed door and a canted oriel window above it. The central bays have three wide, segmental-headed windows on the first floor, which are adorned with simply carved block mouldings and set within shallow recessed panels. Above these are bipartite windows, and the wider left bay mirrors these details while also including additional side lights.
The outer bays are topped with finialled pediments, with the left bay featuring a lunette. In the attic, there are a pair of round-headed windows that have a small blind arcade and a facetted roof. The unpedimented bays are finished with a balustrade, and the roof is slated.
