Description
Lesmurdie House, located on Pitcaveny Road in Elgin, is an extensive Scottish Baronial house built between 1881 and 1885 by William Kidner, incorporating an earlier house from around 1830. The property was extended and subdivided by Willets Architects between 2000 and 2007. The house is mainly single storey on a raised basement and is centered around a five-stage tower with an angle stair turret. It features mainly bullfaced rubble construction with a battered basecourse and ashlar dressings.
The east elevation has an off-centre doorway beneath a segmental-headed, crenellated arch, flanked by mullioned and transomed side windows and fanlights. The windows vary in design, including one, two, three, four, and five-light configurations, with the window to the left of the front door being bowed. A raised square slated cupola with a pyramidal roof and weathervane is positioned above the billiard room, which is offset behind the entrance. The south elevation features a balconied loggia that fronts the earlier house, along with crowstepped gables. The roof is slate with corniced stacks.
Inside, the house includes lugged and grained door cases and doors, as well as half panelling in the drawing and dining rooms. The drawing room has a window directly above the fireplace.
