Description
5 Newmill Cottage in Newmill, Elgin, is a building that dates from the mid to late 19th century, although it has an earlier core. It features an L-plan layout with a single storey and an attic, having been converted from a stable and carriage range. The long symmetrical elevation consists of bays arranged in the pattern of 2,1,2,2,1,2, with single bays that are gabled. The remaining bays include gabled wellhead dormers. The return elevations have a door set in a moulded architrave and display irregular fenestration. Access to the cottage is through a pointed-arched pend that has a dovecot above, leading into a paved and cobbled court. The exterior is harled with stone margins, has coped stacks, and is topped with a slate roof.
