Description

Circa 1870; 3-storey and attic, 7-bay symmetrical facade

arranged 2-3-2. 3 modern shop fronts to ground floor

divided by narrow flat-headed entrances to pends.

Coursed tooled ashlar to 1st and 2nd floor, polished

ashlar dressings. 3 central bays in shallow recess;

square stilted-headed windows on 1st floor, bipartites

in outer 2 bays with centre colonettes, string course raised

over window heads. Round-headed windows to 2nd floor,

also with bipartites outer 2 bays linked at springing level

by string course.

Flat pilasters at party walls with simply corbelled capitals

and gabletted dies above cornice. Bracketted eaves

cornice; blocking course; 6 piended dormers with

cast-iron finials; corniced ridge stacks; slate roof.

No 85 has 3-storey single bay wing to rear.
