Description
The Steading, Inveravon Manse, is a house and steading dating from 1769 and 1834, located in Inveravon. The main house was built in 1834 by William Robertson of Elgin and faces south. It is a symmetrical, three-bay, two-storey building that fronts the gable of a smaller manse dating back to 1775, creating an L-shaped dwelling. The main house is harled with granite ashlar margins, while the rear wing is of rubble construction.
The central entrance is within a slightly recessed bay with a pediment. A later projecting porch features a shallow gable, moulded cornice, a simple fanlight, and a panelled door. Later, narrower side lights with sandstone ashlar margins flank the entrance, likely added around 1876. Simple granite aprons are found beneath the ground-floor front windows, which have 12-pane glazing. The building has paired, margined chimney stacks and a piended slate roof with projecting eaves.
The rear wing, dating from 1775, is a simple two-storey structure with a three-window fenestration on its east elevation. The west elevation has a harled, single-storey and attic, three-bay extension with a gabled and swept roof, and mainly 12-pane glazing, added around 1870. Coped end stacks serve the wing, and it has a slate roof.
Inside the main house, the spacious entrance hall from 1834 includes a staircase with a fruitwood handrail and simple balusters. The 1775 wing retains some fielded panelled doors and window shutters.
The steading, built in 1769, is a small, single-story, U-plan structure facing east. A later garage entrance has been inserted into the south wall. The roof is graded Tomintoul and piended, replacing an earlier thatch covering.
