Description
The Inveravon Manse is a house constructed in 1834 by William Robertson of Elgin, with an earlier wing dating back to 1775. The main house is a two-storey, symmetrical, three-bay structure facing south, and it is built around the gable of the older manse, forming an L-shaped dwelling. The exterior is largely harled, with granite ashlar margins, while the rear wing is of rubble construction.
The central entrance is positioned within a slightly recessed bay with a pediment. A later projecting porch, featuring a shallow gable, moulded cornice suggesting a pediment, a simple fanlight, and a panelled door is present. Narrow side lights with sandstone ashlar margins flank the entrance; these were likely added around 1876 by A Marshall Mackenzie. The ground floor front windows have simple granite aprons, and all windows have 12-pane glazing. The building has paired margined stacks and a piended slate roof with projecting eaves.
The earlier, two-storey rear wing has three windows on its east-facing elevation. The west elevation of this wing features a harled, single-storey and attic, three-bay extension added around 1870, with a gabled and swept roof, and primarily 12-pane glazing. This extension incorporates coped end stacks and a slate roof.
The interior of the 1834 main house features a spacious entrance hall with a staircase, characterised by a fruitwood handrail and simple balusters. Within the 1775 wing, you'll find fielded panelled doors and window shutters.
A steading, dating from 1769, is located on the property. It's a small, single-storey, east-facing U-plan structure; a later garage entrance has been inserted into the south wall, and the roof is now piended, with graded tiles replacing earlier thatch.
