Description
The stables at Mayen House, dated 1788, feature a courtyard plan and consist of a substantial single-storey range with a loft. The building is constructed of rubble and harl pointed rubble, with tooled granite dressings. The north-facing elevation has a seven-bay design that faces the mansion, showcasing a central basket-arched entrance beneath a gable with a keystone oculus and a dated bellcote. The outer bays contain basket-arched carriage houses, while the left side has two later wide square-headed doorways, and the right side features a pedestrian entrance flanked by segmental-headed windows. There are six loft windows in total.
The west-facing elevation also has a seven-bay layout, with a gabled central bay that includes a wide segmental-headed entrance closed by plank doors, flanked by similar square-headed openings. There is a slightly advanced gable on the left and a projecting gabled wing on the right. The building is topped with slate roofs and features ball finials at the apices, including a 'pineapple' finial at the southwest gable. There have been some modern alterations and additions at the rear.
