Description

The Old Parish Church in Marnoch was built in 1792 and restored between 1884 and 1885. It features a rectangular plan with four bays and is oriented east-west, with a single-storey vestry attached to the north. The church is constructed from roughly squared and coursed rubble, accented with stugged ashlar dressings, and has round-headed windows, except for those in the vestry.

On the west elevation, there is a central door in the gable, flanked by small windows and a taller window above. This elevation includes an ashlar belfry dated 1690, which houses a bell from 1747. The belfry is topped with five obelisk and ball finials that were reused from an earlier building and features the date 1880 along with initials.

The south elevation has four tall windows, while the east elevation showcases a large window in the gable. The vestry is located to the right of this elevation and includes a door to the basement, with two windows situated above the door. The north elevation has two windows on the church itself, and the vestry extends at right angles on the east end, featuring a boarded door with a strip fanlight and two irregular windows to the left. The vestry is fitted with sash and case windows.

Inside, the church was remodelled in 1884-5 and includes a gallery on three sides, supported by marbled cast-iron columns. The pulpit and organ are positioned in front of the east window, with an altar table below.

Additionally, there is a rubble retaining wall with gatepiers on the south-west side, which is complemented by hooped wrought-iron gates. A mounting block, consisting of four ashlar steps, is located outside the churchyard on the south side.
