Description
18th century with later alterations and additions. 1 1/2 storey, 3-bay traditional rectangular-plan office with lower single storey, 2-bay addition set back to left, with flat roofed block to angle, and wall with pedestrian gateway to right. Squared sandstone rubble; long and short surrounds to openings with relieving arches and heavy, block lintels; droved long and short quoins.
N (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: window at ground in bay to centre; mutual lintel and cill block to window at 1st floor above. Window (possibly formerly door) in bay to right of centre. Boarded door in bay to left of centre. Addition set back to left: square-plan block with 2-leaf boarded doors in bay to right; boarded door in bay to left.
S (REAR) ELEVATION: small opening to far left. Otherwise blank.
9-pane timber sash and case window; 4-pane fixed windows; red pantiled roof; ashlar skews; cast-iron rainwater goods.
BOUNDARY WALLS: high coped rubble boundary wall enclosing Rosslyn Chapel and burial ground. Pedestrian gateway set to W of stable: architraved gateway with geometric carved decoration and similarly decorated and pediment with carved fragment (probably from Rosslyn Castle) set above; deep set, boarded door with decorative iron hinges.
