Description
The Gateway and War Memorial in Memorial Park, Loanhead, was built in 1922. It features a commemorative arch, a boundary wall, cast-iron railings, and a gate, along with a separate World War II monument within the park topped by a lion statue.
The north elevation, which adjoins The Loan, showcases a modern triumphal archway dedicated to World War I. It has a red tile roof that is raised in the center and includes an inset panel inscribed with "IN HONOURED MEMORY OF THOSE FROM LOANHEAD AND DISTRICT WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1918 THIS PARK AND GATEWAY ARE DEDICATED - Their name liveth for evermore." The arch is flanked by curved wing walls, each with two name panels, a band course above, squared end piers, stone coping, and cast-iron railings, along with a cast-iron gate.
The wall consists of a low stone structure with cast-iron railings that match the gate. The memorial features a rusticated stone column with inset panels on all sides and a smooth plinth, topped by an older lion statue.
