Description
The airshaft at Easthouses Colliery dates from the earlier to mid 19th century and is a plain, circular tower made of red brick. It features a battered, advanced circular base and a tall tower that consists of 69 courses. At the top of the tower, there is a pulvinated ring, and above this, broken blocking courses are present. The brickwork is primarily in stretcher bond, with header bond interruptions occurring every fifth course. Two-thirds of the way up the tower, there is a slightly advanced yellow brick header bond course, and a yellow brick stretcher course is located just below the wallhead.
