Description

The Western Range at Duirinish Byres comprises a group of 15 drystone byre and barn structures. These buildings date to the 18th century and are arranged in a U-shaped enclosure, with the Duirinish-Drumbuie road forming the open end. The individual buildings are approximately 36 feet by 18 feet, with some joined gable to gable, and one is roofless. A notable feature is the use of horizontally halved doors and vented sides, with louvres crafted from vertically laid lengths of barked, unfinished timber. Corrugated iron now covers what were originally thatched roofs.
