Description

The Southern Range at Duirinish Byres consists of a group of fifteen drystone byre and barn buildings. These date to the 18th and 19th centuries, and are arranged in a U-plan enclosure, with the Duirinish-Drumbuie road forming the open end. The buildings are generally rectangular, measuring roughly 36 feet by 18 feet, with some joined gable to gable. One building is roofless. Each building has horizontally halved doors and vented sides; the ventilation louvres are made from vertically laid lengths of barked, unfinished slender timber. Corrugated iron now covers the roofs, replacing what was originally thatch.
