Description
The Glencoe and North Lorn Museum occupies an earlier-mid 19th century pair of single-storey cottages situated along the main street of Glencoe village. A former byre stands as a separate building at a right angle to the cottages, at the west gable.
The cottages, which form the main museum building, comprise six irregular bays, each with a doorway, and are constructed of whitewashed rubble. They feature four-pane glazing and have end and central ridge stacks. The roof is thatched with heather. The cottages are linked internally to create one larger space. Inside, portions of the original cruck blades have been partially reconstructed.
The byre is a small, single-storey structure with an entrance in its long east elevation. It is built with slightly battered walls using a local drystone technique, featuring courses of round and sometimes split field boulders levelled with slate rows. The gable is weatherboarded, likely replacing turf, and the roof is thatched with heather.
