Description

The Massacre of Glencoe Memorial is a Celtic cross sculpted by Macdonald of Aberdeen and erected in 1883. It is a tall, slender cross rising from a rustic shaft base, and is raised upon a rubble cairn. An inscribed plaque is built into the cairn, and the memorial is enclosed by cast-iron spearhead railings. The memorial was erected by Mrs Ellen Burns Macdonald of Glencoe in memory of McIan, Chief of Macdonalds of Glencoe (her ancestor), who was killed on 13th February 1692.
